How we handle your information

This Privacy Policy describes how Measuring Mastery collects, uses, and shares information across our website and application, for everyone who interacts with us: prospective customers visiting our marketing site, and school staff, parents, and students using the product.

For students specifically, education records are governed first by FERPA and by our agreement with your school or district, in which Measuring Mastery acts as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest. See our FERPA Compliance Statement for that relationship. This policy fills in the rest: what we collect and why, in plain terms.

We collect information in three categories:

• Account information — name, email, and role, provided when a school, teacher, or individual account is created.
• Education records — assessments, mastery data, accommodations, goals, and related academic information, entered by schools and teachers or generated by student activity in the product.
• Basic usage data — standard application logs (e.g. sign-in times, error logs) used to operate and secure the service. We do not run third-party advertising trackers or analytics cookies on the site.

We use information to provide and improve the product — authenticating accounts, generating reports and mastery data, powering AI-assisted features when a teacher or student uses them, sending account and parent-communication emails, and processing school or teacher billing. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use student data for advertising, under any circumstance.

We share information only with the service providers required to run the product, listed in full on our Subprocessor List — our database/infrastructure provider, our AI vendor (only when an AI feature is actively used), our payment processor (billing contacts only, never student data), our email provider, and, only if a school opts in, Google Classroom/SSO. We do not otherwise share personal information with third parties, and we do not sell it.

Measuring Mastery is used by students under 13 through their school, not signed up directly by children. For that use, we rely on COPPA's school-official exception: the school or district consents on behalf of parents to the collection of student information needed for school-directed educational purposes, in the same way it would consent to any other classroom software or service.

A parent who wants to review, correct, or request deletion of their child's information should start with their child's school, which can also route the request to us — this mirrors how FERPA record requests already work today.

School staff can access or update their own account information at any time by signing in. Parents and eligible students (18+) can access their own education records through the parent or student portal, or by asking their school.

To request a copy, correction, or deletion of personal information not available through the product directly, contact us using the details below, or ask your school or district to submit the request on your behalf.

We'll update the date below when this policy changes, and will notify district contacts of any material change affecting how student data is handled.
